Now, believe it or not, in style circles throughout decades, there have been some debates on whether guys should wear undershirts or not wear undershirts.
A lot of old-school-style guys, maybe some style snobs, say you shouldn't wear an undershirt.
However, spoiler alert, I don't agree.
Now, there are several reasons why you should wear an undershirt. And if you can check off one, two, or all of these boxes, I think you should be wearing one, just like I do.
Reason #1 - Trap Sweat
The first reason to wear that undershirt, if you're anything like me, and you sweat a lot, or even sweat profusely, you're going to want to wear an undershirt.
Nothing worse than the sweat going through your dress shirt, and sometimes, even through your jacket.
When you have that undershirt on, it forms a protective layer between you and the rest of your clothing, keeping some of that sweat at bay.
If you're a heavy sweater, try an undershirt.
Reason #2 - Prevent Deodorant Stains
Now, the second reason falls right along the lines of the first. Not only are you going to get a lot of sweat rings, if you sweat at all.
What about those deodorant stains? You know, those yellow, aluminum- causing stains that come from wearing your deodorant.
Wouldn’t you much rather have those on your undershirt than your nice fancy dress shirt?
That undershirt forms a protective barrier, once again, not only between the sweat, but that deodorant, protecting your shirt.
On top of that, you'll have to wash and take care of that shirt less often.
If you keep the sweat and deodorant stain on the under shirt, the dress shirt will last longer, and be protected.
Reason #3 - Mask Flaws
The third reason, and it's one I definitely don't have a problem admitting, why I wear an undershirt.
An undershirt does a great job of hiding some of your flaws.
I'm talking about if you're a little hairy like me. And sometimes, you can see the hair through a light colored dress shirt, if you have to work on your chest.
My chest, one of my weak points. An undershirt kind of compresses you, it can hide those flaws.
And what about you, guys, that have prominent nipples, or ones that poke through your shirt, the undershirt does a great job of concealing it.
So if you're anything like me and you want to kind of hide a few flaws here and there, an undershirt does a great job.
Wear an undershirt, less likely see man boobs, hair, and nipples.
Reason #4 - Extra Layer
Another reason to wear an undershirt, it just provides an extra layer.
If you're someone who gets cold easily, or you're live in a colder climate, nothing wrong with an extra layer between you and your clothes, keeping you just a little bit warmer.
Reason #5 - Invisible
And last, but not least, the reason to wear that undershirt is that it's not visible, at least a quality one.
If you grab a quality undershirt, and the right cut, and the right color, you can have that layer of protection, and nobody will see it or know the difference.
So, if you can check off one, two, or all of those boxes we just talked about, you probably need to wear an undershirt.
So now that we got the "Why you might want to wear an undershirt out away," let's get to the how and the when.
How & When To Wear An Undershirt
This is not an undershirt.
This is a T-shirt. Now, what's the difference?
Well, a T-shirt, it's heavier, it's bulkier, it's baggier. It's not made of lightweight, breathable material.
It's usually all 100% cotton, which is not a bad fabric. It's just not as breathable and light. It's what you might find in the undershirt.
On top of that, with a T shirt, usually cut short, not good for keeping tucked in.
An undershirt is going to be longer, making easier to stay tucked in throughout the day, because this is bulkier, baggier, not as lightweight, not as breathable, and cut shorter, this is a T shirt, not an undershirt.
This, on the other hand, is an undershirt.

Notice the difference, much more lighter, much more breathable, snug and form-fitting. One of the positives about that, it compresses you, helps hide some of the weakness in your physique.
For instance myself, I need to bring up my chest. Because this undershirt compresses it, it hides those weaknesses under your dress shirt. Very good thing about an undershirt.
And like I said, it's longer, making it easier to stay tucked. The typical T-shirt cut very short, doesn't stay stuck in your pants all day.
A longer undershirt, especially this one that's longer in the back, definitely will stay tucked, a bonus of an undershirt.
Now, I want to take some time to talk a little bit about today's video sponsor: RibbedTee.
Not only have RibbedTee sponsored today's video, they provided both of the great quality undershirts we're using in our demonstrations.
Now, why RibbedTee for this video? For me, it was a no brainer. Let me get you a little behind the scenes on how some of this stuff kind of works.
Now, usually with YouTube sponsors, they reach out, they want to throw some money at you, or some free product, and they want you to go agree right away.
But Mike from RibbedTee, his approach, much different.
He contacted me thinking maybe we could do a collaboration, but he said, "Jeff, first, I want to send you the product. I stand behind this so much. Before we come to any agreement, I want you to try it out, and let me know what you think."
And when I received the undershirts, did I love them? Of course, I did. You, guys, know I don't do hardly any sponsors. And when I do, it's somebody I'd surely believe in.
Let me tell you why I love these undershirts so much.
First off, they check off all the qualities of a great undershirt. Is it lightweight? Is it breathable? Form fitting? Do they feel good on your skin? Does it provide the protection I'm looking for in an undershirt?
RibbedTees do exactly that.
The first thing I noticed when I pulled them out of the package, how soft it felt. It just felt good. If you're going to wear something this close to your skin, you wanted to feel good. The feel-good test passed immediately.
Then what was important, how did it feel when I slid it on?
Now let me tell you, it felt cool. It felt soft. It just felt natural next to the skin, again, kind of that cooling sensation that I need.
Like I said, I sweat kind of easily. That cool feeling really impressed me. And like I said, they're nice and form-fitting. giving you that compression, hiding some of the flaws.
Then you have to talk about the quality in the fabrics that go into the undershirt.
RibbedTee's [EVO TENCEL] undershirts are made of 94% Tencel, 6% spandex.
Tencel are lightweight and more breathable fabric, than your typical cotton.
And of course, you know, spandex gives you that stretch. So as you can see, I'm a big fan of RibbedTee's product.
So much so that we partnered for this video. And of course, I highly recommend that that you, guys, give RibbedTee a try.
As a matter of fact, they have a great offer for your first order. On your first order, you get 20% off. I have the link in description.
The undershirt's such great quality. I was so impressed. I've been wearing them almost every day since Mike sent them to me.
So, hit that link in the description.
You definitely want to check out RibbedTee, high quality undershirt that I wear almost every day.
Now, back to the video.
So in today's video, I'm going to talk about the two most common scenarios you're wearing an undershirt in.
First off, let's talk about how I'm going to wear an under shirt when you have a shirt and tie or a shirt buttoned all the way up.
Now, generally speaking, most of the time, when we're dressing up, we usually wear a white dress shirt or a lighter colored blue dress shirt like I have.
How do you want to pull that off with an undershirt? Here's what you want to do. First off, this is the perfect time to wear a crew neck undershirt, and you want one that's not white.
Now hear me out.
Usually, most guys wear a T-shirt or undershirt that's white. You don't want to do that with a white dress or a light colored blue dress shirt.
For most guys, I suggest either a grey undershirt, or what I like to rock, a tan undershirt.
Very close to my natural skin tone, not easily seen under a while shirt or light blue dress shirt.
As you can see you here, I have on this light blue dress shirt, underneath, a great crew neck undershirt in tan.
Notice, this is not visible. You can't tell I have one on at all.
A white one, you might have been able to see.
And like I mentioned, crew neck, just fine when you have the buttons all the way buttoned or a shirt and tie on. A crew neck is not going to be visible in those situations.
Now, let's talk about how and when you would wear a white undershirt or a V-neck undershirt, or a combination of the two, as we see here.
Now, a white undershirt, you can get away with it with a darker colored shirt. Under a lighter shirt like a light blue or white, won't work as well.
Under this dark denim Oxford button down, it won't be seen.
On top of that, it's cool to rock a v-neck undershirt when you're rocking what I'm wearing, a shirt that you might want to unbutton a button or two.
A crew neck peeking through won't look so good, but with the V-neck, allows you to get away with it having that undershirt coverage, without the undershirt showing.
Okay. So there you have it - my How and When guide to wear that under shirt.
